The City of Wabasha is delighted to announce that the new Eagles Basin playground is officially open and ready for public enjoyment as of today, June 5th. This vibrant new park, a key project identified in our comprehensive master parks plan, offers families and children play and outdoor activity. We are especially proud that the full mitigation cost of moving and installing the park equipment to the Eagles Basin site was completely covered by crucial grant funding sourced from last year’s flood event (DR-4797), demonstrating our commitment to resilient recovery and being fiscally responsible.

“The opening of the Eagles Basin park is a great achievement for Wabasha, showcasing our staff’s ability to transform challenges into opportunities for growth,” stated City Administrator Caroline Gregerson. “Not only does this project fulfill a strategic goal outlined in our master parks plan, but was also demonstrates our efforts in successfully securing and utilizing vital grant funding to benefit our residents. We encourage everyone to come out and experience this fantastic new addition.”

While the playground is now fully operational and ready to be utilized, the City is also excited about upcoming enhancements for the park planned for the coming months. Future work will include the installation of a concrete sidewalk directly connecting the park to Wabasha’s popular city bike trail, further improving accessibility. Additionally, two new concrete pads will be poured to accommodate new park benches, offering comfortable seating for visitors. Following the completion of this concrete work, site restoration will take place, including the planting of new grass seed to ensure the park is as beautiful as it is functional. These forthcoming improvements will further enrich the Eagles Basin playground experience for all.
