The Malone Park playground equipment is moving to the new Eagles Basin park (1148 Majestic Street, Wabasha MN). The new park opens June 2nd. With the ongoing flooding events at Malone Park, the equipment needed to be removed to prevent further damage. Additionally, FEMA was no longer willing to pay for clean up of the equipment, due to the constant flood ocurrences. Staff, Wabasha Parks Board, and Council approved the change to move it to an area that does not flood. The Eagles Basin neighborhood was selected as the new location, due to being identified in the Master Wabasha Parks Plan as having a playground service gap.
The mitigation cost of moving the park equipment to the Eagle Basin playground was completely covered by grant funding, sourced from last year’s flood event (DR-4797). The equipment will be ready for use at its new location as of June 2nd.
