The City of Wabasha also reviewed its 2025 department accomplishments at its January 2026 meeting, which included major street projects, increased number of police, fire, and EMS calls, new partnerships, outstanding programming at the library, high levels of pool attendance, over $888,000 in grants that benefited the City of Wabasha. 2025 Highlights:
- The City of Wabasha completed a major mill and overlay project for its most deteriorated streets – from Skyline Drive, to Buena Vista Drive, to 3rd Street West, and 11th Street West. Public Works also completed new patching and surfacing projects on varios streets on the west side of Wabasha.
- The City added a new EV charger, fixed the fencing at Heritage Park, and began removal of old athletic field facilities. The City selected an engineering firm and begin design and environmental work for the new Highway 60 road realignment, which is completely funded through grants.
- The Wabasha Fire Department completed the year with 178 runs (a 48% increase since last year) and the Wabasha Ambulance Department finished the year with over 1016 calls and an 11% increase in call volume and a 20% increase in revenues.
- The Wabasha Fire Department completed critical maintenance on their building, including installing a new concrete apron, upgrading an old ventilation system, and replacing a floor drain.
- Emergency Management received almost $297,556 in grant funds for future flood mitigation and completed projects rebuilding the skate park at the new athletic field, moving a playground out of the flood zone to Eagles Basin, securing the bank of the Mississippi with rock, and new lighting along the bike path.
- Police responded to 3,700 calls for service in and undertook major investigations resulting in convictions for child pornography, theft, stolen property, and felony drug charges.
- The Wabasha Public Library held 172 programs with attendance of 4,991, an increase of 13% over last year. Over 46,000 books and e-books were circulated.
- Port Authority distributed $18,000 in five small grants to local businesses to improve their building exteriors.
- The Wabasha Pool delivered 273 lessons, daily aerobics classes, and had over 2000 visitors.
- The City successfully managed over $888,000 in federal and state grants, for public safety, equipment, flood mitigation, and more.
