TH 60 Realignment Project
The City of Wabasha is planning a realignment of Trunk Highway 60 to improve safety, reduce flooding closures, and support community growth. The project will construct a new roadway segment that eliminates a dangerous T-shaped intersection at the foot of the steep bridge approach and raises the road above the 100-year flood elevation. Visit with project engineers and City staff on the project on October 23rd at the Fire Hall from 4-6PM 113 Hiawatha Dr W, Wabasha, MN 55981.

FAQs on the project
- Is the cost to build the highway pay for by my property taxes? No, this project does not impact your property taxes and is funded by grants.
- How will the construction impact traffic? More information will be shared on the City’s website, routes for emergency services will be analyzed and prioritized during the project.
- Is there contamination at the old athletic field and how does that impact the project? Debris and concrete has been identified in certain areas of the site. The project costs include the cost of any required clean up to build the road.
- How did the project come about? This concept has been discussed in the community for over 30 years. This specific plan was adopted by the City of Wabasha City Council at their December 3, 2019 meeting. It was conceived of by community stakeholders in the planning process during the Minnesota Futures Pilot Project Plan and incorporated into the City of Wabasha Comprehensive Plan in 2021.
- Who will own and maintain the new roadway? The City will build it and then transfer it over to MnDOT . MnDOT would then own and maintain the road.
- I live close to the road project and my basement floods. Will the road impact flooding in my basement? Most basement flooding in Wabasha occurs due to groundwater fluctuations. This project will not impact the groundwater elevations. While the project design is just getting underway, initial modeling indicates the roadway project will not affect the surface water flood elevation. The project will continue to refine the model to ensure there is no negative impact on the flood elevation.
