Wabasha Program Offers 18 Months of Free Rent to Bring New Childcare Option to Community

WABASHA, MN — A unique opportunity is available for a childcare provider ready to start or expand a business in Wabasha—including 18 months of free rent and a fully equipped classroom.

Three Rivers Community Action, in partnership with the Wabasha Port Authority, is seeking a passionate provider to operate out of the historic Wabasha Mittel Schule building. The partnership hopes the opportunity will attract either someone interested in opening a new childcare business or an established provider who is ready to move their operation out of their home. The goal is to make launching or relocating a childcare business more attainable while also creating another option for families in the Wabasha area.

The selected provider will have access to:

  • 18 months of free rent for a dedicated childcare classroom in the Wabasha Mittel Schule building.
  • A fully equipped classroom, including childcare supplies and equipment.
  • A dedicated outdoor play area with a fenced-in space and storage shed.
  • Business and licensing assistance, including support with developing a business plan and navigating the childcare licensing process.

“This is more than an available classroom—it’s an opportunity for someone with a passion for working with children to build a business with a strong foundation and community support,” said Wabasha Mayor, Emily Durand “We’re hoping to find the right person who sees the potential in this opportunity and wants to make a lasting difference for local families.”

Starting a childcare business can come with significant expenses, from finding an appropriate facility and purchasing equipment to developing a business plan and navigating licensing requirements. This opportunity is intended to help remove some of those barriers.

For someone considering opening a childcare business, this opportunity provides a dedicated location and resources to help get started. For an existing provider who has been operating out of their home, it provides an opportunity to transition into a dedicated childcare setting without taking on immediate rent costs.

Those interested in learning more about the opportunity are encouraged to connect with Jane Adams Barber with Three Rivers Community Action at 612-508-8724 or jadamsbarber@threeriverscap.org for information about touring the facility, the application process, business planning, and childcare licensing assistance available through the partnership.
